Lakhanlal Kashyap India freedom Fighter

Lakhanlal Kashyap

Durg, Chhattisgarh

Lakhanlal Kashyap, born in 1915 in Patan, a bastion of freedom struggle, was a dedicated Congress activist deeply involved in India's freedom struggle. Born to Madhav Prasad Ji and Lakshmi Bai, he hailed from a family rooted in service and activism. His elder brother, Halaluram Vaidyarajji, was a prominent social worker, while his younger brother, Tukaramji, pursued veterinary medicine.

Married to Savana Bai, Lakhanlal Kashyap's residence in Patan became a hub for political activities, serving as the Congress Committee office. In 1939-40, he spent significant time at Sevagram Ashram with Gandhiji, where he interacted with notable leaders like Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Vinoba Bhave, and Jamnalal Bajaj. Inspired by Gandhi's teachings, he championed the Charkha movement and cottage industries upon his return.

During the Quit India Movement in 1942, Lakhanlal was arrested after urging for British departure in the Marra market, serving time in Raipur and Jabalpur jails. Despite hardships, he continued his activism and practiced Ayurvedic medicine, welcoming freedom fighters to his home in Patan. Known for his simplicity, steadfast principles, and loyalty to Congress, he remained apolitical and focused on community service.

Lakhanlal Kashyap passed away in March 1997, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and unwavering commitment to India's independence struggle.
